As a parent you are almost certainly going to need to use childcare and there are many options.  You will need help to make the right choice.

Childcare, Child Minders and Babysitting

You need time to yourself whether this is to work or to play!  Your child also needs to spend time with other people to learn independence and how to communicate and develop relationships.  Many people are fortunate in being able to call on other family members to provide care but quite often outside help is needed and getting the right care can be a matter of concern and expense.

There are numerous ways to identify people who provide childcare from nannies to nurseries, babysitters to child minders.  Word of mouth is a powerful way to find someone so don’t be afraid to ask for recommendations within your friends and family.

There are standards for most private and voluntary sector children’s services that are set in law.  Many child minders and nurseries need to be registered and inspected, but some don’t.

Sure Start Children’s Centres

There are 26 Sure Start Children’s Centres located across Liverpool. They aim to give every child under the age of five the best start to life that they can get.

Children’s centres offer children under five years old and their families a range of services and information.  

The services at each centre vary but it can include early education and childcare, support for parents - including advice on parenting, access to specialist services for families, child and family health services - ranging from health screening, health visitor services to breast-feeding support.  The centres also help parents into work.
