Liverpool is a modern cosmopolitan, forward-thinking city steeped in history. The city has a proud maritime heritage and our culture is known the world over.
But what places Liverpool apart and above anything else are the people and the communities we live in.
Liverpool is a collection of local communities that are diverse but share many things. Our communities are made up of people from many ethnic backgrounds, different faiths, they speak different languages and their lifestyles vary and we all share a desire to create safe neighbourhoods, to ensure the services we require are the best and to enable us to build strong communities that provide the best for ourselves, our families and our neighbours.
What you can do
The most important contribution anyone can make to their local community is to get engaged and undertake activities. Finding other people who share your interests and concerns can lead to activity that will make a real difference.
The city is divided into five neighbourhood management areas each with its own management team who act as champions for that community.
If you want to find out more about these neighbourhoods, find a local voluntary organisation or fancy doing some voluntary work, you can do this by contacting your local team.
You can contact your neighbourhood team to get easy access to services tailored to the needs of your local area.
You can ring them at Liverpool Direct on 0151 233 3001 or call in to your nearest One Stop Shop or send an e-mail message.

Healthy Places (an initiative of the National Heart Forum alliance of organisations) focuses on legal areas that are new, interesting, often not fully understood, or, not recognised at all as having a potential impact on health in a local area. Healthy Places highlights areas of law that have the potential to change local environments and encourage more active lifestyles and better diets, and to improve the health of a community.
